Box Battle

Box Battle — ESL classroom game

The review game show: teams pick numbered boxes and answer what's inside. Surprise boxes steal, swap, double… or BOMB!

How to use Box Battle in class

The classic review game, as a game show. Works with words, questions or sentences.

  1. Set it up: Choose teams, how many boxes, question types and how many surprise boxes. Open it from a topic to use those words.
  2. Pick a box: The team on turn picks a number. The question pops up with a timer.
  3. Judge it: Press Correct (C) or Wrong (X). Wrong? Another team can steal the points.
  4. Surprises!: Some boxes hide a surprise: bonus, steal 5, swap scores, party… or a BOMB. Most points at the end wins.

Teacher tips

  • Use 'Read aloud' and 'Sentence gap' for grammar units.
  • Random box points keep weaker teams in the game.
